The Triangle of Safety

The Triangle of Safety focuses on three key elements - speed, space, and self. Every skier and rider should ski within their ability and recognize the critical need for controlling speed, respecting personal space, and fostering self-awareness.

High Fives Foundation invites everyone to join the safety movement, watch the documentary below, and share it to amplify its impact on mountain safety education.

Speed

  • Always control your speed
  • Continuously scan for obstacles like rocks, trees, and people
  • In crowded areas, go with the flow and slow down

Space

  • Always yield to downhill skier/riders; they have the right of way
  • Maintain space
  • Anticipate traffic
  • When passing, ensure there's enough room for safe maneuvering

Self

  • Check in with yourself every day to assess what's going on with your body, your ego, and external pressures
  • You are responsible for your own and others' safety
  • Take breaks when tired or frustrated
  • Wear a helmet and keep equipment in good condition
