Craftsbury Outdoor Center has been a destination for serious outdoor athletes and recreational enthusiasts alike since Russell Spring and his family founded it in 1976 on the former Cutler Academy campus in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. What began as a Nordic ski center quickly expanded to include sculling, running, and biathlon, and the Center has operated as a nonprofit since 2008 under the ownership of Dick Dreissigacker and Judy Geer.
Today, Craftsbury's mission centers on supporting participation and excellence in lifelong sport, with a particular focus on cross-country skiing, biathlon, rowing, and running. The trail network and facilities draw competitive athletes training at an elite level alongside recreational guests looking for a quiet, well-run place to ski and stay. Sustainability and land stewardship are built into how the Center operates, with ongoing efforts to protect the surrounding land, lake, and trails.
Leashed or e-collared dogs are welcome on select ski trails in Craftsbury and Greensboro, making it a good option for skiers who want to bring a dog along for the day.
