No child will be denied the opportunity to ski or ride. That's the founding principle behind Cochran's Ski Area, and it's been guiding the hill since Mickey and Ginny Cochran first ran a backyard rope tow in 1961 with nothing but community support and a commitment to getting kids on snow.
In 1998, Cochran's became the first IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt ski area in the country, formalizing a mission that had been operating that way for decades. As Mickey's son Bobby puts it: "It was always a nonprofit, becoming a 501(c)(3) just made it official."
Today, Cochran's hosts 2,000 kids annually through school programs, runs racing and training for the next generation of competitive skiers and riders, and remains a welcoming place for families across Vermont to learn the sport affordably.
The Cochran's snack bar is a centerpiece of the Cochran's skiing experience. With both an array of snacks as well as home-cooked meals provided by local families, there’s always something warm to thaw your toes and satisfy your appetite. Highlights are a hot bowl of chili with cheese and warm corn bread on top. Kids never get enough of the grilled cheese, local bagels, and hot dogs. Even if you’re not getting food don’t forget to say hi to the snack bar staff who are always good for friendly conversation.
