Saskadena Six takes its name from the Abenaki word "saskadena" (sahs-kah-deena), meaning "standing mountain," chosen in collaboration with Chief Don Stevens of the Nulhegan Band of the Coosuk-Abenaki Nation to honor the original inhabitants of the land and the mountain's long history of community and inclusion. The "Six" traces back to 1936, when founder Wallace "Bunny" Bertram selected the hill marked "number 6" on a local map as the site for his rope tow ski area.
Nearly 90 years later, Saskadena Six operates as part of the Woodstock Inn & Resort, with 28 trails, 2 lifts, and 60% snowmaking coverage. The mountain invested in a full snowmaking infrastructure upgrade in 2018, adding automated TechnoAlpin snow producers with real-time weather monitoring across multiple elevations, significantly improving snow quality and production efficiency.
The mountain has built its reputation on being welcoming and accessible, a place where beginners find their footing and longtime skiers and riders return not just for the terrain but for the sense of community that comes with it.

Perley Wheeler was the original lodge-keeper at the former Suicide Six, now Saskadena Six. His bushy white beard punctuated by a hand-carved wooden pipe was the familiar sight that greeted guests both on and off the hill.
