Prospect Mountain sits on Route 9 in Woodford, Vermont, just seven miles east of Bennington, at a base elevation of 2,250 feet, the highest base elevation of any ski area in Vermont, alpine or Nordic. That elevation is a practical advantage: it snows at Prospect when it's raining in Bennington, giving the area consistently reliable conditions through the season.
The trail network covers more than 30 kilometers, groomed for both classic and skate skiing with tracks set on either side of a wide skating lane. Trails range from beginner to expert, with the Mountain Trail climbing more than 400 feet to the summit before delivering several kilometers of downhill on the return. Dedicated snowshoe and singletrack trails round out the options, and uphill skinning on the former alpine terrain is welcome with a day pass. Dogs are allowed on select trails.
Prospect has operated as a nonprofit under the Prospect Mountain Association since 2018. The base lodge anchors the experience with a stone fireplace, woodstove, and a restaurant serving full meals and snacks.
