Skiing and riding is technically just skimming on a microscopic layer of water so what better way to close out the season than skimming on a much, much bigger one? Enter the pond skim: a hallowed tradition to cap another fantastic winter in Vermont.
Whether spectator or (brave) participant, there's probably a pond skim near you.
Send the ski season off the Bolton way with their annual Spring Thing! Join in for an afternoon of sunshine, splashes, costumes, and full-send energy featuring a classic Pond Skim and our on-snow Dual Slalom Mountain Bike Race. Yes, you read that right. Mountain bikers racing head-to-head… on snow. Yikes.

Timeline of events:
10AM - Registration opens. *Limited to the first 50 participants!
$25 to compete. Must be 18 years or older to participate.
11:45 AM - Skimmers meet slopeside at Mid Burke Lodge (Bear Den patio)
12 noon: Fiddlehead Beer Garden opens and competition begins!
3:00 PM- Awards ceremony at the Bear Den
Men and Women's first place (last to cross the pond) will receive 2026/27 Burke Winter Season Passes.

Spring weekends include some of the best events of the season where goggle tans and t-shirts are the outfits of choice as we enjoy spring's soft snow, longer days and sunshine. Try not to take a dip during the 2026 Pond Skim at Stratton on March 28, 2026. The pond is back as participants try to skim across the water's surface and make it out the other side just as dry as they entered.
It's the biggest event of the Winter Season at Okemo! The Slush Cup is back! Join us at the Clocktower Base from 12-2 p.m. and see if you can make it all the way across the pond. Come party, have fun, and take home some cool prizes if you win one of our judged categories: biggest splash, best whip-out, best dressed, best run, or crowd favorite.

Dare to make a splash, and you could take home prizes for Best Costume, Crowd Favorite, or Best Splash—plus the illustrious title of 'Northeast Worldwide Pond Skim Champion.' *Northeast Worldwide defined as Stowe, VT; maybe Burlington too.
