How many people do you make happy every day? If you’re a lift operator, that’s well into the hundreds. And while we all do our best to show our appreciation (at least we hope you do) to the people sending us up the side of a mountain, Middlebury Snowbowl took it a step further this Valentine’s Day.
Showing their ‘lifties’ the love with a valentine station in the base lodge, the Snowbowl invited skiers and riders to make cards for their favorite lift operator(s) and drop them into their prospective boxes. While getting valentines alone is exciting, each card received by an operator was also tallied for a chance at prizes at the end of the day.
Not about to miss out on a chance to showcase their own crafting skills, operators decked out work areas for the occasion.
The brainchild of the ski area’s general manager Kim Essenza, the activity highlights the close-knit nature and playfulness of the Middlebury Snowbowl community.
“I thought this would be a fun way for our lift operators to see how much our visitors appreciate them,” says Essensa. “And our lifties took the opportunity to show that appreciation right back. It’s part of what makes the community here so great—we just have fun together.”
