Mad River Glen

StorySki on Saturday March 22.

Kids love stories and they love to ski too. The only thing better would be to combine the two. Mad River Glen will be doing just that as they host a second StorySki Event on February 22, 2020. The StorySki itself will be in place at Mad River Glen from February 15 through March 1, 2020 and can be enjoyed by all ages.  The StorySki is based on the idea of the StoryWalk, a project that originated in Montpelier at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library and has spread throughout the world. Laminated pages from a children's book are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story. It was created as a way for children to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.

The StorySki will feature “Over and Under the Snow,” a picture book written by Kate Messner, illustrated by

Christopher Silas Neal and published by Chronicle Books. Kate Messner, an award-winning writer of books for young readers, lives in Plattsburg, New York.

The book begins with a father and daughter exploring the woods on skis. Over the snow, the world is hushed and white. But under the snow exists a secret kingdom of squirrels and snow hares, bears and bullfrogs, and many other animals that live through the winter safe and warm, awake and busy, under the snow. Discover the wonder and activity that lies beneath the snowy landscape in this magical book.

TheStorySki Event will take place on Saturday February 22, 2020 from 10:30 to 2:30. The StorySki Event is open to skiers age 3 to 8 and will take place on the Birdland Trails, beginning at the Kent Thomas Nature Center and ending at the Birdcage. Register at the Kent Thomas Nature Center.

This event is sponsored by The Stark Mountain Foundation is a charitable organization based in Waitsfield, VT.  Their mission is to preserve and protect the environment and ecosystem of General Stark Mountain, including its recreational access and historic value, and to support programs that promote and sustain that environment for the enjoyment of present and future generations.
