The Fall Line: Weird Weather, Big Air at Fenway Park, Cabot Cheese Giveaway

Friday freshies at Sugarbush last week.

Weird Weather
Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow this week on Groundhog Day which, according to legend, means spring is right around the corner. While the actual spring equinox is still 6 weeks away, skiers and snowboarders have faith – the next two months are typically the snowiest of the year – and snow is stirring in the upcoming forecast. A clipper storm is on the horizon and expected to bring some fresh snow this weekend and with it, colder temperatures. In addition to the refresh from Mother Nature, snow guns will fire back up to quickly restore trail conditions. Plus we’re looking ahead even further into next week when a Nor’Easter will possibly develop Tuesday through Wednesday.

Keep an eye on the conditions report at skivermont.com/conditions as changes develop and while you’re there be sure to peruse our events listing for fun celebrations of Mardi Gras, the Super Bowl, food and drink pairings, and on-snow events at resorts across Vermont.

Keep thinking snow!

Big Air at Fenway
Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, is undergoing a huge transformation in preparation for the Big Air competition at Fenway next Thursday and Friday, February 11 and 12. Fenway will be the third stop on the FIS Snowboard World Cup tour and the second stop on the U.S. Grand Prix Tour, where the Green Monster will be overshadowed by a 150 foot tall ramp. That’s 10 feet higher than the Monstah! Athletes will have to take an elevator to the top of the ramp built by Killington snowmakers and Parks crew.

Join Ski Vermont and our friends from the High Fives Foundation for a party at the Bleacher Bar after Thursday’s event from 10:30pm-1:30am and we’ll match the first $3,000 in donations to High Fives made at the door. We’ll also have a ton of prizes to giveaway to guests and donors. Come give Sarah, Hilary and Kyle a high five and have fun while helping recovering athletes get back on the hill. For event details and more info on this great foundation, please visit highfivesfoundation.org.

As you make your way to Fenway, make sure to look up while traveling through Kenmore Square. Vermont is taking over the station with branding on everything from walls to the card swipe machines and a giant video billboard outside the park.  We love Boston and we’re excited to bring a piece of Vermont to our fans there.

See you in Beantown!

Crazy for Contests
This season we got carried away with contests, giving away piles of lift tickets, ski and stay packages and fantastic prizes from our partners each month and there’s still more in store. This week we chose the winner of our January Dale of Norway sweater giveaway, who is taking home a beautiful and cozy merino wool Rondane sweater.

If you prefer a gift that’s a little cheesier, this month’s giveaway is for you. Cabot Creamery, makers of the World’s Best Cheddar, is giving away a gift basket worth $75 filled with a variety of cheeses and accoutrements. Visit skivermont.com/contest or enter on our homepage for a chance to win a big slice of cheese paradise.

For even greater odds of winning gear, swag and great goodies from Ski Vermont and our partners, make sure to log your days on the snow using the Trace Snow or Snocru apps and you’ll automatically be entered to win when you Check In to Win. Details on this season long and state wide contest at skivermont.com/checkin.

Good luck and ski (or ride) on!
