The Fall Line: Weather Winter Storm Jonas from on Our Slopes

Dropping ropes at Mad River Glen this week.

Powder Picnic
While the middle and southern east coast states brace for an onslaught of wintry mix this weekend, the northeast is delighting in the more than 2 feet of all-natural powder that’s fallen in the last few days. As of today, Vermont’s trail count has once again set a new high mark for the season with nearly 900 trails open across the state. Check this week’s storm totals and open trail counts at your favorite Vermont resort at

Just look at the rooster tails and face shots that have been popping up around the Green Mountains in this photo album!

This weekend’s forecast calls for the perfect weather to get out there and enjoy the current conditions. Snow guns will continue to blast and the sun should show its face. Our advice: head north before Winter Storm Jonas comes your way and wait out the storm from on our slopes.

Beginners: Now is Your Time
January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month nationwide and Vermont resorts are in on the action. For just $49, beginners get rental gear, a lift ticket to access beginner terrain, and a lesson with a certified instructor in January. This program isn’t just for folks who have never slid on snow before, taking a lesson when you try a new sport shortens the learning curve so you can have more fun, faster. Visit for details and to reserve your lesson package before the month is over.

Also available for the first time this year, the Take 3 pass encourages beginner skiers and snowboarders to develop the skills they need to learn a new sport this season in a series of three lessons. You can use the three vouchers in this pass at one, two or three different resorts throughout the season. Each voucher includes rental equipment, a lesson and lift access to beginner terrain. This pass is only $129 and we have a limited quantity available, so make sure to buy your Take 3 pass today. For a list of participating resorts, restrictions and order form visit

Haiku for Free Lift Tickets
Each week in January, Ski Vermont is giving away lift tickets to our biggest fans and followers on social media who participate in our fun challenges. First, we asked to see photos of you playing in the first snowfall of the New Year. Then, we wanted to read your best powder prose in haiku form.

This week we want you to enjoy the bountiful powder and miles of open trails then show off your Trace Snow or Snocru session sheets. Share them on FacebookTwitter, or Instagramand tag them with #SkiVermont #CheckIntoWin to be entered to win a 4 pack of lift tickets to a Vermont resort of your choice. We’ll choose a couple favorites and announce several winners next week, right here in the Fall Line.
