Old Man Winter Returns to Vermont for the 2016-17 Season
Over the past few weeks, Vermont ski and snowboard resorts have been visited by an old friend who brought over a foot of snow to Vermont’s highest peaks. This early season snowfall fired up avid skiers and snowboarders all over Vermont, including those who attended Killington Resort's Opening Day on October 25, 2016. Cold temperatures have also allowed resorts to fire up snowmaking in October in preparation for future opening dates. Once again, Killington Resort has kicked off the ski and snowboard season in the East and soon, others will follow suit.
“Thanks to an early boost of snow and Vermont’s snowmaking capabilities, we’re starting our winter season about seven weeks ahead of Mother Nature’s schedule,” says Parker Riehle, President of the Vermont Ski Areas Association. “This is a great way to start the 2016-17 season and further ensure that Vermont remains the #1 ski and snowboard state in the East.”
